An Outdoora Explorer doesn't just visit a place.
You walk into it.
You cross its mountains, meet local people, sleep in remote villages, experience the landscape and embrace the unexpected.
Wild Albania is about more than ticking off trails. It's about being part of the place you came to explore.
Leave Tirana behind and head deep into the Albanian Alps. From the trailhead near Theth, we set off on our first hike towards the crystal-clear Blue Eye of Theth, before continuing through the mountains to the village of Theth.
Your luggage is taken ahead, so you can focus on the trail and the landscape. Tonight, we stay in a local mountain guesthouse, a first taste of Albanian hospitality and life in the mountains.
Hiking: ±12 km · Elevation: ±540 m up/down. Difficulty: Moderate
Outdoora Traveler moment: Your first steps into the wild Albanian Alps.
Today we cross one of Albania's most iconic mountain passes. Hike through rugged peaks and spectacular mountain scenery before descending into the peaceful Valbona Valley.
Hiking: ±15 km · Elevation: ±1,000 m ascent · Difficulty: Challenging
Outdoora Traveler moment: Crossing the mountains from one legendary valley to the next.
Today is all about discovering the Valbona Valley. We leave the main route behind and explore some of the valley’s highlights, with time to take in the dramatic peaks, forests and rivers that make this part of the Albanian Alps so special.
A day to slow down, explore and enjoy the mountains — without having to pack your bags.
Hiking: 4-6· Difficulty: Moderate
Outdoora Traveler moment: Discovering the quieter side of Valbona.
Today’s trail takes us beyond Valbona into the remote mountains towards Çerem, crossing into Montenegro.
Depending on weather and trail conditions, we may take the spectacular route over Preslupti Pass — a more adventurous option with stunning mountain views. If conditions are less favourable, we’ll follow an alternative route that is less exposed but still offers a true mountain experience.
Our local guide chooses the best route for the conditions and the group on the day.
Either way, you’ll discover a remote and authentic side of the Balkans — wild, beautiful and adventurous, without making it harder than it needs to be..
Hiking: ±15.5 km · Elevation: ±1,100 m ascent · Duration: 8–10 hours · Difficulty: Moderate or Challenging
Outdoora Traveler moment: Going deeper into the wild, one step at a time.
After yesterday’s challenging crossing, today feels a little more relaxed. We leave Çerem behind and walk through forests and open mountain landscapes towards Dobërdol, one of the most remote places on the trip.
Along the way, we can stop for a coffee at a tiny local café before heading deeper into the mountains. We spend the night at a local mountain guesthouse, with no electricity and no phone signal. Just silence, wildlife, incredible mountain scenery and some of the best stargazing you could wish for.
Hiking: ±14.9 km · Elevation: ±865 m ascent Duration: 6–7 hours · Difficulty: Moderate
Outdoora Traveler moment: No signal. No electricity. Just wilderness.
We spend another night at our local guesthouse in Dobërdol, surrounded by mountains and far from roads, electricity and phone signal.
Today, we head towards Tromeda Peak and the meeting point of Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro. Along the way, we cross into Kosovo — adding another country and another wild landscape to the adventure.
Hiking: 6-7· Difficulty: Moderate
Outdoora Traveler moment: Three countries. One wild mountain landscape.
The adventure isn’t over yet. We leave the remote mountains behind by 4x4, driving along rugged mountain roads on a spectacular journey back towards civilisation.
After lunch, we board the scenic Koman Lake ferry, winding between dramatic cliffs and remote valleys. A minibus meets us on the other side and takes us to Shkodër, where a luxury spa hotel awaits.
After days of hiking, remote mountain huts and sleeping without electricity or phone signal, this is your moment to switch gears. Enjoy the spa, a long dinner and a final evening together to celebrate the adventure.
Outdoora Traveler moment: From remote mountain trails to a luxury spa — the journey back is an adventure too.
After breakfast, we say goodbye and make our way back to Tirana Airport for your journey home.
One last look at the mountains, a few final stories to share — and time to start thinking about where your next adventure will take you.
Outdoora Traveler moment: Leaving the mountains, taking the memories with you.
After days deep in the mountains, we leave the wilderness by 4x4, cross Koman Lake by scenic ferry and finish our adventure in a luxury spa hotel in Shkodër.

Wild Albania – 8-Day Adventure
An 8-day guided adventure through Albania, including accommodation, hiking and authentic local experiences.

Minimum 6 · Maximum 10 participants
Wild Albania is a small-group adventure with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 participants.
This is a demanding mountain adventure, not a beginner hiking trip. Previous mountain hiking experience and a good level of fitness are required to comfortably handle long days in rugged terrain, including up to 1,100 m of elevation gain.
As a general indication, you should be able to comfortably run 5 km and feel confident hiking for 8–10 hours in the mountains.
You should also feel comfortable with exposed mountain terrain and heights.
Accommodation is part of the adventure. In the mountains, you'll stay in local guesthouses and mountain lodges, usually sharing a room with another participant. Some nights may involve sharing with more people.
Your final night in Shkodër is different: you'll have your own private room in the luxury spa hotel.
Your main luggage travels with you by mule through the mountains.
You'll carry only a daypack with your water, food, snacks and personal essentials for the day. Your remaining luggage needs to fit into a compact, waterproof duffel bag.
Less is more. Space is limited, so pack light.
A detailed packing list will be available to download before your trip.

In the mountains, drinking water needs to be filtered before drinking. We'll explain how and where to refill along the route.
Albania is generally warm and dry, but mountain weather can change quickly. Conditions can shift rapidly at altitude, so you'll need to be prepared for changing weather.
Travel insurance is not included and is your own responsibility.
Outdoora Travels is covered by VGZ Garant for the relevant organiser protection. This does not replace your personal travel insurance.
Explore the wild. Experience the authentic.
8 days. 3 countries. Remote mountains. One unforgettable advent
No, but you do need to be comfortable with long and active hiking days in mountainous terrain. Some days are challenging, with significant elevation gain and uneven terrain. You should be able to hike for several hours at a time and enjoy being outdoors for most of the day.
Wild Albania is an active adventure, not a sightseeing trip. As a guideline, you should be comfortable running around 5 km and hiking for 5–8 hours in mountainous terrain. Previous mountain hiking experience is helpful, but more important is having a good basic fitness level and a positive attitude towards challenging days.
Mountain weather can change quickly, especially at higher elevations. Some routes are therefore weather-dependent. If conditions make a planned route unsafe, we may adapt the route or choose an alternative. The safety of the group always comes first — without taking away the adventurous spirit of the journey.
No. Your main luggage is transported during the journey, including by mule on the more remote mountain sections. You only carry a daypack with the things you need during the day. A waterproof duffel bag is required for your main luggage.
Accommodation is part of the adventure. We stay in small, locally run mountain guesthouses in the Albanian Alps, with shared rooms on the mountain sections. Facilities are simple compared with a city hotel, but the atmosphere, hospitality and location are part of what makes this journey special.
On the final night, we leave the mountains behind and stay in a comfortable luxury spa hotel in Shkodër.
Shared rooms are part of the mountain experience and are common during the trip. On the final night in Shkodër, you will have a more comfortable hotel stay.
Some sections of the route are exposed and mountainous. You don't need to be a climber, but you should feel reasonably comfortable walking on mountain trails with steep terrain and occasional exposed sections. If you have a serious fear of heights, this may not be the right adventure for you.
You are never expected to prove anything. The pace and route can be adapted where possible, depending on the terrain, weather and the needs of the group. Your guide will help assess the situation and decide on the safest option.
Wild Albania is a wild adventure with a touch of luxury at the end. During the mountain sections, comfort is intentionally simple: mountain guesthouses, shared rooms and luggage transported ahead. After days in the wilderness, we finish with a hot shower, a good dinner and a luxury spa hotel in Shkodër.
Wild adventure in. Luxury comfort out.
For travellers who love mountains, adventure and small-group travel — and who don't mind getting a little out of their comfort zone. You should enjoy active days, beautiful but sometimes challenging trails, simple mountain accommodation and the feeling of being genuinely away from the everyday.
